Introduction

First time: Since this is the first lesson, we take some time to introduce the teachers: their names, countries of origin, and the languages they speak. We say: My name is.../I am from.../I can speak... If the children are already sitting calmly, we begin immediately with our introductions. If not, we form a large circle by holding hands and go into a smaller circle all together (we repeat this a few times). Then we sit down in the circle and introduce ourselves. The children also introduce themselves by repeating “My name is…” while we clap and tap our thighs in rhythm, going around the circle.

Colours' introduction

We continue by introducing the topic of the first session: colours. To assess the children's current level, we show them different coloured flashcars or cones (blue, red, yellow, green, etc.) and also point to colours on our clothes and theirs. We say: "This colour is..." and we touch the colour.

Run to the colours

Distribute the cones around the room before the lesson . And then we start to run around like airplanes. After a short time we call a colour and everyone runs to find that colour. At first, we run alongside the children and touch the named cones. Then we give the children more independence. Once all children have found the colour, we change the way we move around the room (e.g.: cat, spiderman, grandparents, kangaroo, …) until we say another colour again. We repeat this process with different colours as often as needed.

Little circuit with colours

For this game one teacher leaves the first game a bit early to prepare a small circuit. Once the circuit is ready, we ask the children to form a queue (each queue can be assigned a colour.). A teacher demonstrates how to do the circuit. At the end of the circuit another teacher waits for each child and tells them a colour they need to touch. The other teacher stays at the starting line and give each child the signal to go.
